Short Run Book Printing for Quick Turn-Around - MA

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, October 08, 2013

If you are an author interested in self-publishing, or if you run a publishing company that needs to meet quotas quickly, choose short run book printing for faster turn-around. For fulfilling order obligations, for a smaller inventory or to meet budgetary demands, short run book printing is the best and right option. Print the amount of books you want and stay within your budget.

Short run printing is a better choice than traditional, large scale book printing. Why? With short run book printing, you don’t need a deal with a publishing company. Short run book printing allows you to print only the books you need. If you have a smaller budget, smaller storage space, have a small order to fill, or unsure of how the book will sell, short run book printing can accommodate all of those concerns.

Commercial printers make money on the quantity of books they print. Therefore, they are not interested in printing smaller quantities of books in order to meet your needs.

More authors, publishing companies, universities, and trades people are interested in short run printing. For many authors, using a commercial publishing company means the difference between printing or not printing their book, but short run book printers give you another option.  When you have a smaller distribution channel short run book printers are perfect for you.

Print on Demand has Changed Self Publishing

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, August 06, 2013

Recently an article was published in Forbes Magazine on the advantages of printing on demand for self publishers. We thought we would share the important points from that article with you:

Self-publishing in general is turning the traditional publishing industry on its head, but print-on-demand services, or POD, are making every writer’s dream of becoming a published author achievable. There are some obvious reasons for this:  the out-of-pocket cost of printing one book at a time is relatively less expensive than taking a chance on a 1,000-book run.

Not long ago, an aspiring book writer rejected by traditional publishing houses had only one alternative: vanity publishing. For $5,000, $10,000, or more, an author could have his manuscript edited and published, provided that they agreed to buy a few thousand or  more copies themselves. Often these book copies ended up not being used.  Digital publishing and print on demand have significantly reduced the cost of producing a book.

Some believe the advantages of POD for authors is saving the publishing industry.

Author Control

Print on Demand is not just for authors who can’t find a publisher. Author Mark Edwards self-published one book The Magpies after working with a publishing house to publish another. For him it was a matter of expediency.

“When I finished The Magpies I wanted to get it out quickly, partly because I wanted to build momentum before my other book came out.”  The Magpies has sold over 130,000 copies and has been in the top 10 for over two months.

A Time article reported that e-book self-publishing is growing at four times the rate of other forms of self-publishing – and some authors are making more money that way.

There are many advantages of print on demand including access and author control, and affordability. Many authors are jumping onto POD publishing as a low-cost, low-labor way to turn their books into profitable products.

Self-Publishing Gets Your Book in the Hands of Readers

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Do you have an idea that you would like to get into a printed book? A publishing company can help a developing writer publish a book. However, more want-to-be authors are turning to self-publishing as their preferred way of publishing a book. So how about using a publishing company that offers self-publishing services as well.

These days, it’s easier than ever to get your story to the people who want to read it. With the rise of self-publishing and all forms of indie publishing, you can do it yourself. People choose self-publishing for many reasons, the biggest reason being that they would prefer to maintain control of their book. Many writers prefer to control their own work from an artistic and business standpoint.

Beyond this, there are plenty of other reasons writer would prefer to self-publish:

  • Lower publishing cost.
  • Self-publishing allows an author to maximize their books ‘earnings.
  • Self-publishing allow you to market to a small, specific demographic that you have direct access to.

Or, perhaps a traditional publisher has turned you down. If you are unknown, a publisher may not take an interest. There have been plenty of recent New York Times bestsellers who were initially turned down by publishing houses and became self-published books. In fact, half of Amazon’s top 10 best-sellers last year started as self-published books.

Self-published books used to bear the vanity press stigma and steep costs but now, independent publishing is quickly becoming the preferred road to readers for many authors. Self-publishing is getting easier and the success stories are becoming more prevalent, causing self-publishing to gain in popularity.

Self Publishers use Short Run Printing to Help get Published

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Publishing your own work can be challenging, use the opportunity to get a short run book publisher involved to help you find your way.

Hopeful authors, with the help of fast, online communication and relatively cheap and high-quality digital book printing technology, are now rushing to publish their books. However, many authors still want their books in print.

While a blogger or e-book publisher can reach their audience relatively easily, the logistics of getting a printed book in front of an audience can be dauntingly involved.

For slightly green self-publishers, there is an opportunity with a short-run book printer. Cover design, editing, distribution and marketing are all services that self-publishers may need help with, and the printer may well be able to lend a hand.

The vast majority of self publishers who are using short run book printing are authors who may have limited experience with what’s involved in publishing a book, but with professional ambitions.

Most self publishers want their book stocked by book stores. There is typically a fairly wide gulf in what they’d like to achieve and how much time and money they have to do this. Short run book printing can fall more in line with authors budget and timeline.

Even something as seemingly straightforward as commissioning a professional-looking cover can be daunting for a self publisher, so it is important to find a short run book printer who can help you with all of your needs and where everything is in one place, so you don’t feel vulnerable as a self publisher in your first attempt getting your feet wet.

Short Run Book Printing for Self Publishing

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, March 12, 2013

In recent year we have seen an increase in self-publishing. We have also been experiencing a recession. Short run book printing can help self publishers realize their dream of writing a book.

The biggest genre increases for self publishers has been in fiction, women’s books and photographers and designers.  Self publishing is a cost effective way to publish your book and still have a professionally printed book. Short run book printing gives these publishers a way to maintain control over the publishing process and publishing costs. Short run printing is best for self publishers and publishers who may have only a small distribution channel; order just a dozen copies and order more later.

Because you can publish as few books as you would like, you can control the initial outlay of money as well as your inventory. With short-run printing, you can publish anywhere from 11 to 5000 books, whatever amount you can afford, or whatever quantity you can store. Short run book printing is a convenient and economical way to print books to fill your distribution channel.

Renaissance in Publishing – Self Publishing

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, February 05, 2013

If you want to be a published writer and you don't mind publishing yourself, these are very good times. One recent survey found that the number of self-published books in the U.S. has almost tripled in the past six years. As eBooks become easier to create and distribute, more and more services are popping up to help you do that.

There has always been a stigma associated with self-publishing. Five years ago self-publishing was seen as the option of last resort. It was seen as the option for failed writers. And the publishing industry held that view, and even writers held that view.

But that's changing now. Self-publishing is now becoming the option of first choice for many writers. And even traditional publishers now have new found respect for self-publishing. They're using the self-publishing bestseller lists to troll for new authors to acquire.

Traditionally, publishers are in the business of selling books. So they seek to acquire books and authors who they think have the greatest commercial potential. But the challenge here is they really don't know which books are going to go on to become bestsellers. Only readers know that.
And so in the attempt to only choose the cream of the crop, many potential breakout bestsellers are being excluded. And those books are now going to self-publishing.

It is possible that we are at the very early stages of renaissance in publishing. Over the next few years, readers will have the opportunity to discover and enjoy more great books than ever before, more books that match their unique interests, and books will become more available to more readers around the world.

Advantages of Short Run Printing

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Short run book printing allows you to have a smaller amount of books printed. In fact, you can print anywhere from 11-5000.

What are the advantages of short run printing?

  • Short run book printing reduces the chances of loss arising due to non sales of book items as an estimated 30% of printed materials never find buyers. It follows the demand and supply equation better.
  • Even though the price per copy may be high in short run digitally printed books it reduces the overall cost which go into printing book using the normal offset printing.
  • It gives the author the opportunity to publish as low as 25 copies of the book which is advantageous for books which are meant to cater to a very niche audience.
  • The short run printing process is faster than the traditional offset printing and thus proves to be useful in situations where printing has to be done on a short notice.
  • Short run printing is a form of 'green printing' as it reduces wastage which is a common thing with the traditional bulk publication system.
  • Digital printing gives you the option for variable data printing. Each and every copy of the printed material can be customized which is not possible in normal printing with metallic plates.
  • It encourages first time authors to self publish their own book as the cost of the self publishing as short run printing is cheaper.

How to Market and Sell Your Book

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, November 27, 2012

We all know that self publishing is becoming more and more popular. But still, there are questions about it, not to mention, how to market and sell your book. Once you are able to market and sell your book, you will then see a return on your time and effort and money that you have spent on writing your book.

The biggest challenge people face is really not understanding that they’re going to have to market their own book – even if they have a publisher. Publishers can afford to do very little these days to help an author market.

For many authors, it is more the face-to-face, doing book tours and book festivals, signings and friends. Just going and meeting friends. For these events however, you need books to sign and give away. Short run book printing is the solution. For an author on a tight budget, short run book printing, when you can print anywhere from 1-2000 books, helps you manage your money and your storage space.

Promoting Self Published Books with Short Run Printing

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Self-publishing used to be frowned upon in the publishing world. Distribution was often facilitated by the trunk of the author's car, and word-of-mouth was the only form of publicity. Thanks to ebooks, the internet, and the availability of short run book printing, things are changing. The stigma of self-publishing has diminished, and even previously trade-published authors are giving it a try.

Some very big publishing companies are also getting into the self-publishing game as well. Self-publishing is now big business.

There are numerous places to sell your ebook online-and almost as many platforms. But short run books are another way to get your book out there and in the hands of reviewers and readers. By printing short run books, you can order as many books as you want, with no strain on your budget. Use these books for book signings, book tours and too give away at book fairs and to friends.
